From a Farm Boy to a Medical Doctor.

I was born on the 21st January 1984 on a farm called Angora nearby Jansenville in the Karoo in the Eastern Cape. I`m the eldest of 5 children. I was born to a 16year old teenage mother, I grew up by my granny, stayed in very poor house-hold circumstances: no electricity or running water, overcrowded zinc house, alcohol abuse and travelled from farm to farm and so the list can go on…

O.a Beste leerder in graad 3-8 in my klasse.

My secondary phase was at” BYE PARK” Humansdorp Secondary School 2000-2003:

Best learner from grade 9-12 and the school deluxe student in matric, with the only A-candidate aggregate in the national exams for our school and served on different leadership structures. RCL (representative council of learners 2000-2003, president in 2003), executive government board of the school 2000-2003. An honour to be named the Head boy of HSS and hostel president 2003. Was the 3rd best matriculant in Nelson Mandela metropole for disadvantage schools in the national exams and received a full scholarship from the office of the premier for my studies at Stellenbosch University for Medicine.

Some of the Giants I faced along my road: From a young age who threaten our communities and my dream were – External forces: alcohol experimentation, poverty, Peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, Internal forces:  low self-esteem, zero motivation so the list go on.

Some setbacks: The passing of my granny in 2000 who was my driving force and inspiration, I was diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease in grade 11 my health was severely  threatened, but thanks to God for showing me grace during that time, and in 2003 the farm Driefontein got sold….

Medical Career:

I did my Internship in Tygerberg Academic Hospital 2010-2011, my Community service year 2012 at Uitenhage Provincial Hospital and I decided to work on for 1 more year. It is here were my passion for Obs and Gynae been birth, I was one of the senior medical officers running the department. In 2014 a desire to enrich my career and broaden it arises, so I took up a Medical Officer Post at Knysna Provincial Hospital. I was the senior medical officer in charge of the Obs n gynae department and running the labour ward.

At the end of last year (2015) a vision arrives to open a private practice in the rural community of Knysna and Bitou district, first of its kind in the community. After a lot of prayer and a step in faith I decided to take on the vision for my people in the community, to provide them with easy accessible, high quality and affordable private health care next to their door step. No need to take taxis or hire cars to town.

The birth of Lewies Medical Practice is on its arrival, the birth signs are there already, the expected due date for the opening is on 11 April 2016. I believe the community is very excited about the birth of its coming. Thanks to God who gave me the vision and provided in many ways for it to come to LIFE.
